Knot Tying & Casting Workshop

Date : 16 th November 2008
Time : 8am
Venue : Kelana Jaya Lake

A Knot Tying & Casting Workshop organized by the Persatuan Memancing Malaysia (PeMM) and Pure Fishing also as sponsor of lines for the scouts of Seri Kembangan Secondary School was held on the 16 th November 2008 at the Kelana Jaya lake in Selangor.

The event started at 8am with a knot tying session headed by James & Sally of PeMM teaching 5 basic but important knots and they are:

•  Uni Knot
•  Clinch Knot
•  Surgeon's Loop
•  Snell Knot
•  Palomar Knot

The participants later got a better understanding of fishing equipment where it was seen that all of them have never fished before and are new to the world of angling. They were taught the types of fishing rods, different types of reels, setting up of the rod, line, & reel, as well as casting.

The participants were each given a set to practice casting with an added bonus. The first participant to cast into a blue container will be the winner of a bag of hooks. After about half an hour one of the participants managed to cast into the blue container making him the winner.

At about 11.00am the participants got to try a hand at actual fishing. Baits provided ranged from earthworms to cricket and also bread. A good size tilapia of about 800g was the first fish to be landed by one of the participants. Having not fished before she was the happiest angler among the group that day while she posed for the camera.

All in all, the event ended on a good note with all participants and organizers enjoying themselves and looking forward to the next event.
