Baitcasting & Soft Bait Clinics

Many anglers have tried advancing from spinning reels to baitcasting reels. Some have made it but a lot have not. In fact a lot of anglers have given up entirely trying to use a baitcasting reel as they find these reels really impossible to cast. How much fun can one derive from freeing one's reel of the bird's nest over and over again?

What they did not know is that learning to use a baitcasting reel is as simple as learning to use a spinning reel. All that is needed is a little knowledge, patience, and soon they will be catching fish with it, enjoying a whole new fishing experience.

Wanting to help more anglers be able to enjoy this new fishing experience, Pure Fishing Malaysia has been helping to conduct Baitcasting & Soft Bait Clinics for various organizers in and around Malaysia such as in Kuantan, Sabah , and Selangor.

The first one started in Kota Belud, Sabah on the 15 th June 2008 organized by Hans Trading and Rikaraya Fishing Park .

Apart from baitcasting, participants also learnt a lot about what makes Berkley Gulp & Berkley Powerbait soft plastic baits so attractive to fish. The organizers also prepared an aquarium to show participants the swimming action of these soft plastics in the water. The participants, most of whom have not ventured into using soft plastic baits for their fishing endeavors were amazed at how these baits swim.

Participants were taught the few basic methods of rigging soft plastic baits the likes of the Carolina Rig, the Drop Shot Rig, and the Texas Rig. Participants also learnt how fishing with soft plastic baits allows them to cast directly into the weeds and snags where fishes hide and thus increases the catch rates, something that no angler will do on a hard plastic lure.

Being new to soft plastic baits, participants were amazed at how effective they are when within 45 minutes four siakaps (barramundi) with an average size of 2kg were landed.

It is the hope of Pure Fishing Malaysia that more anglers go further in fishing experiencing all forms of fishing from using of a spinning reel to baitcasters to fly fishing. The benefit of being a more rounded angler is that you will not only experience the joys of doing various forms of fishing but at least you can fish with all levels of equipment.
